Created by init. It records the audience, product purpose, positioning, constraints, terminology, and truths future work must preserve.

DESIGN.md

Created or refreshed by document. It records the visual system found in the codebase: color, typography, spacing, components, and interaction patterns.

Surface briefs

New or replacement surfaces may add a scoped brief for the route or component. That brief owns the immediate mode, visual direction, and acceptance conditions without rewriting durable product context.

Commands load the smallest applicable context before acting. Edit these files when the recorded truth is wrong; do not use them as a dumping ground for temporary task notes.
